My dad told me I was beautiful.
Not because I was having a bad day or was fishing for a compliment or was dressed extra special. He was just looking through some pictures we just had developed and said it simply and spontaneously.
(When I looked at the picture earlier, I just saw big pores and coffee-stained teeth. And my own gorgeous daughter.)
I had to look away for a while because of the tears in my eyes; I couldn't even choke out a thank-you. It just felt so good to hear my father say that.
Wouldn't it be good--wouldn't it be revolutionary--if every father could say that to his daughter once in a while?

It would be revolutionary! I remember my dad telling me I was beautiful on one occasion, my wedding day.
aw, that is really sweet. I love your dad. I miss my dad.
I tell my daughters that they're beautiful and amazing every day. That's one of my commitments to them. I also take them out on hot-chocolate or ice cream dates periodically. :)
yes, yes, yes it would be
not even my mom ever told me that... she would say "you're not hard to look at" but she never once in my life told me I was pretty much less beautiful and my dad barely spoke to me.
I have made my boys quiet conceited by telling them how gorgeous they are on a daily basis and when I tell Emily she is beautiful she just looks at me, scrunches up her face and says Yes, I am.
AND.. what a lovely thing for your Dad to do
That's awesome! What a wonderful Dad.
